                                        DeKalb Peachtree Airport

The DeKalb Peachtree Airport is the second busiest airport in the state of Georgia right behind Hartsfield, which is the busiest in the entire world.  We here at CAC feel that being based at PDK helps our members better understand general aviation because of the busy and high-paced nature of the airport.

PDK is a class D airport.  Hartsfield is a class B and airports that serve commercial airlines smaller than Hartsfield but slightly larger than PDK are class C, such as Flint.  There is a control tower that operates 365 days a year from 7 am to 11 pm.  Air traffic controllers that work in the tower coordinate inbound and outbound planes by regulating air traffic during their operating hours, making it much safer than smaller, non-towered airports.

The three major FBOs that serve PDK - Atlantic Aviation, Epps Aviation, and Signature Flight Support - are among the finest fixed-base operators out there that serve general aviation pilots.  PDK is the base airport of over 300 private aircraft ranging from four-seater propeller-driven Cessna 172s to multi-million dollar Gulfstream 550 business jets.

PDK consists of eight runways on four separate pieces of gravel.  The longest of the eight, 2R/20L, is over a mile long and serves most of the jets and larger prop planes.  The other six, 2L/20R, 16/34, and 9/36 are just over half a mile long and serve most of the single-engine planes such as Cessnas and Pipers.
